Following up afterwards

Turning a good conversation into a connection, with one short, specific message.

Follow up within a day or two

A message sent within forty-eight hours lands while the conversation is still fresh for both of you. After a week, it takes more explaining.

You don't need to follow up with everyone. The one or two people you genuinely enjoyed talking to are enough.

Mention something specific

A specific detail shows the conversation mattered to you. It also helps them remember which person you were.

  • Something they told you about.
  • Something you promised to send them.
  • A simple, low-pressure next step, if there is one.

Messages to send

Short, warm and easy to reply to. Change the details to fit.

Say: Great to meet you last night. I enjoyed our chat and hope the move goes smoothly.

Say: Thanks for the conversation yesterday. Here's the article I mentioned. I'd be interested to hear what you think.

Say: It was really good to talk with you at the event. If you're ever up for a coffee, I'd enjoy continuing the conversation.

Say: Lovely to meet you on Saturday. I hope the rest of the weekend was good.

Let it be easy

If they don't reply, that's fine. People are busy, and a kind message is never wasted. You've done your part.
